Introduction to Numerology

Read before digging in... Numerology is perhaps the easiest of the occult arts to understand and use. All you need is the birth date and the complete name of an individual to unlock all of the secrets that the numbers hold. There are eleven numbers used in constructing Numerology charts. These numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 22. Larger numbers that occur from adding the numbers in the complete birth date or from the values assigned to each name, are reduced by adding the digits together until the sum achieved is one of the core numbers. Merely add the components of the larger number together (repeatedly, if necessary) until a single digit (or the “master” numbers 11 or 22) results. Each of these number represents different characteristics and expressions.Master number are the only exception to rule of reducing to the single digit. The master numbers 11 and 22 are reputedly intensified versions of the single digit number they replace (2 and 4). These numbers suggest a potential for a high degree of learning and/or achievement very often in a more stressful environment. In most individuals, the master numbers operate at a much more tangible or practical level, becoming essentially the same as the single digit parallel.The first consideration of numerology is often the date of birth. This date, expressed numerically, as mm/dd/yyyy, is used to determine what is called the Lifepath Number and a variety of other factors in the numerology reading.   We will also be converting your FULL BIRTH NAME* to a number. Letters and numbers, you will learn, are always one and the same. Here is a chart of the values assigned to each of the letters in the English alphabet:

       Note: Most authorities agree that the full birth name as recorded on your birth certificate is the name that must be used for all calculations involving name. Nicknames, changed names including marriage name changes do not delute the importance of the name given to by your parents. THE SOUL URGE

The Soul Urge or as it is sometimes called, the heart's desire, is an important core influence in numerology. However, the Soul Urge falls well below the Lifepath (the birth date number) and Destiny (the full birth name) numbers in importance, because this is a number that you don't expose overtly to those around you. It is your inner cravings, likes and dislikes, which are usually kept rather private. This number denotes what you value most regardless of Life Path (what you are from birth) and expression (what you will become in life). This influence suggests the nature that drives you in your daily life. Satisfying the demands of the Soul Urge will give you a sense of inner peace and contentment.   This number is made up from the vowels (a, e, i, o and u) in your full birth name just as it is recorded on your birth certificate. The sum of all of these letter, converted to numbers, and reduced to a single number or a master number is your Soul Urge. Master numbers 11 and 22 should be considered as 2 and 4, respectively.   1 With a 1 Soul Urge, you achieve a sense of contentment when you succeed in any type of competition.     THE DESTINY NUMBER

A number derived from all of the letters in your FULL BIRTH NAME make up what is called the Expression or Destiny number. Although this number is called both of these names, throughout this website it will be referred to as the Destiny number. Destiny is a very descriptive word for the meaning of this important core element. This is the number that describes the tasks that you must achieve in this lifetime using the name that was given to you by your parents. This name, the complete birth name, symbolizes the opportunities you have at your disposal. This is sometimes referred to as your potential or destiny. Living up to attributes of this number may not be easy, but it is your goal in the here and now.  It is your life's purpose, spiritual mission, and your field of opportunity.  Unlike the Life Path number which reads as you are, the Destiny number more correctly reads as you MUST or what you can aspire to become.
To arrive at your Destiny number, take each name separately and add up the letter values using the conversion chart below. Reduce each name to a single digit . Then add the results of all of the names to arrive at a total which you then once again reduce to a single digit.Don't use nicknames, assumed name, deviations in spelling used, or omit any part of the birth name. Use it as it appears on the birth certificate. Don't worry about changes to the name (married name, etc.), just stay with complete birth name. It is essential to understand that the root numbers used in numerology are, in their essence, all equal, one to the other. Each of the numbers has its positive traits and likewise each number has its negative potential. Here are brief listings of traits for each number:

1 Positive Traits: Initiator of action, a pioneering spirit, inventive ideas, strong leadership skills, independent, drives to attain, individualistic style, executive abilities, extraordinary will and determination, courageous.
1 Negative Traits: Overly assertive or aggressive, dominating, impulsiveness, egotistic, boastfulness, willfulness.
2 Positive Traits: Cooperation, adaptability, considerate of others, sensitive to the needs of others, partnering, an arbiter or mediator, modest, sincere, spiritually influenced, a diplomat.

THE LIFE PATH NUMBER

The Life Path is the sum of the birth date. This number represents who you are at birth and the native traits that you will carry with you through life. The most important number that will be discussed here is your Life Path number. The Life Path describes the nature of this journey through life. The Life Path number is established from the date of birth. First, add the Month, day, and year together to arrive at a total. Next, reduce this four digit number to a single digit. Example: If a person was born on October 23, 1972 (10-23-1972*), add the month 10 to the day 23 plus the the year 1972 arriving at a total of 2005. Then add the digits in 2005 arriving at the  Life Path number 7. The “master numbers, “ 11, 22, and 33, have been incorporated within the corresponding single digit number readings. THE LIFE PATH PERIODSThe life path has been discussed in very elementary details previously, and the life path period is an addition to this reading that should be taken into account. If we live long enough, we will experience three life path periods. As you progress into this page, think of the readings in terms of a modification or enhancement personalizing the life path reading. These readings do not replace the life path reading, but merely fine tune and customize it to the individual. Because life path periods can vary so widely, the life path we are on becomes complex and motley.The life periods are based on the birth date. The number representing the month of birth, reduced to a single digit or master number, is the first life path period indicator. The second life path period is determined by the day of birth reduced to a single digit or master number. The final period is based on the year of birth reduced to a single digit or master number.The timing of the first period begins at birth and continues until at least when in astrological progression the Moon has returned to its original place in the birth chart. This is about 28 years. To estimate the completion of the first period, determine the year that the subject turns 28. Next, calculate the personal year for the subject that year. If it is a 1 personal year, this year should be considered the beginning of the second life path period. If it is a 2 personal year for the subject, the previous year should be considered the beginning of the second life path period. If it is a 3-9 personal year, the beginning of the second life path period will not occur until the beginning of the next nine year cycle, i.e. the next 1 personal year.This same process should be used to determine the beginning of the third life path period. For this, it is the 1 personal year a year before, on, or after, the 56th birthday.For example, my birth is month 2, day 8, year 1939/22.
