Healing Lesson No. 1WHAT IS HEALING?This
is a course in healing for yourself and others, not a course in medicine. All healing comes from within; Medicine works from
without. Medicine is a business; healing is a talent and a right of all human life. If you are to benefit from this earthly
existence, you must learn to become a healer, not only of the body, but the mind and soul as well.
Healing is brought
about by the elevating of the vibrations of the individual cells which make up the various tissues and organs of the body.
Conversely, disease is any process which tends to cause a lowering of vitality and vibrations by any means.Unless diseased cells are restored to normal functioning by
the raising of their vibrations, there can be no real healing. Drugs, surgery, and diverse medical treatments may be able
to alleviate pain and symptoms, but they cannot raise the cellular vibrations.(1) ------------------------------------------------------------ (1) There are treatments and methods used by physicians of the natural school (those who practice any form of natural healing)
which can improve these vibrations, but even here the effort is only temporary, unless the patient learns to change his life
patterns and thoughts in order to sustain the improved vibrations. ----------------------------------------------------------- Only the individual can raise
and maintain his cellular vibrations at a high enough rate for good health. In order to do this, he must take into consideration
everything which may have an adverse effect upon these vibrations, be it physical, mental, or of the soul. Whenever Jesus healed a person, his admonition
was always the same, "Go thy way and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee." This statement tells us three things about healing:1. It is possible for a healer to help
another to temporarily rise his vibrations and be healed.2. The cause of his ailment was due to some sort of "sinning" (disobedience
to the physical, mental, or spiritual laws of God).3. Unless the healed person changes his "sinning" ways (fails to live and think
in such a way as to keep his cells at a healthy elevated vibratory rate), he shall rapidly develop another "disease,"
possibly worse than the first.We,
too, can become healers like Jesus^, but our cures will not be permanent unless we teach our petitioners how to raise and
sustain their own vibrations.There
is within each of us only so much inborn vitality. Most forms of orthodox medical therapy squander this vitality in an effort
to control the symptoms we have brought upon ourselves by our indiscretions. If our vitality is great, we may be able to EXIST
for some time before it is exhausted and our cells begin to die. But in those with low vitality, this cellular degeneration
may begin very early.Under
such treatment, we are in effect "living off the principle" and as such are on a slow, but accelerating, slide to
oblivion.The
pain and symptoms of disease are our best friends–they tell us that our cells are in trouble and are a sign for us to
send healing vibrations, not numbing nostrums that allow us to continue our "sinning" ways unabated to our destruction.Today you can start to rise the vibrations
of your own cells. In time as you do this you can become a healer to help others as you have been helped.Remember always that reading these lessons alone will not
bring you to your goal; only by entering into the spirit of them will you attain. In order to reach your objective, at least once a day repeat
this vibration-raising statement nine times quietly to yourself."I THANK GOD FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF LIFE. I SHALL DO ALL IN MY POWER TO SEE
THAT EACH THOUGHT AND ACTION OF MINE IS DIRECTED TOWARD RAISING THE HEALTH OF MY BODY'S CELLS. I SHALL EVER ENDEAVOR TO GAIN
MORE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS LAWS THAT I MAY WITH JOY OBEY THEM.""Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me (follows the Law
of God as I do), the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do... - St. John 14:|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 2THREE-FOLD HEALING: BODY, MIND AND SOULAll
true healing must be three-fold: body, mind and soul. Medicine devotes its energies mainly to the body and physical parts
of the mind. Mentally oriented teachings, such as Christian Science, explore the effects of mental concepts upon disease but
ignore the physical laws of our being. In a
like manner, faith-healing groups usually fail to follow their spiritual healing with the teaching of the physical and mental
laws necessary to make the healing permanent and to prevent a worse thing from coming upon their subjects. The biblical law which applies here is the admonition to "Render
therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's and unto God the things which be God's." - Luke 20:25Our bodies have certain specific requirements
for normal function: life-giving foods in harmonious combinations; fresh, uncontaminated water; proper exercise; adequate
rest and relaxation; etc. If the necessities are not met, the most positive mental and spiritual attitude will not prevent
disease to the physical structure. On the
other hand, there are many who attempt to live in impeccably healthful existence, but who are yet constantly distressed with
illness due to a lack of harmony in their mental and spiritual worlds. We are assured biblically that the "... curse causeless shall not come."
While the grammar of this phrase is somewhat strained, the meaning is clear. No problem, trouble, or disease (curse) shall
befall us, for which there is not a cause of our own making. In order to be healed, we have only to look for and correct that
cause, and we shall be whole again. This
cause may be physical, such as improper diet, lack of sleep, abuse of our sexual function, or malaligned vertebra due to accident
or strain. In mental sphere, we may be worrying and fretting about things which are probably none of our business; while in
our emotional/spiritual lives, we may be lacking that dynamic enthusiasm which is essential to a truly vital existence.Any one or a combination of these can
cause what we call "dis-ease" To overcome the disease – that is to truly heal – we must remove each
and every cause of the dysfunction. In doing this, we must follow the laws of "each after its own kind" and render
therefore unto Caesar..." We adjust to correct the subluxated vertebra, change the diet to overcome food indiscretions,
teach the laws of life to improve misdirected thought patterns, and vitalize the soul to enliven the spirit. To each problem there is a cause, and by eliminating that
cause we overcome that problem. Since there are no causes which will produce all diseases, there is no single healing method
which will correct all diseases. In these
healing lessons, we shall devote time to all sides of disease prevention and treatment. Each lesson will be complete within
itself, but the various lessons may vary widely in their approach and style, as they will be written by different experts
in each field. In this way, you shall receive a well-rounded education in health and healing that is unparalleled in my experience.
With this lesson you start your own training as a healer. For the best results, please follow the instructions exactly, as
each point is essential to the success of the treatment.HOW TO HELP TENSION AND ORDINARY HEADACHEPlace the left hand on the subject's forehead, touching the
temples with the thumb and middle finger. Place the right hand at the nape of the neck, where the skull and the first vertebra
join, the thumb and the index finger situated on the lateral portion of this vertebra. Press firmly with both hands, and ask
the subject to breathe deeply and relax mentally.During
the treatment, you should hold (toward your subject) thoughts of perfect freedom, rest, and peace. If you follow these instructions,
the headache should disappear in a few minutes.Practice
this treatment at every opportunity, for only through practice can you become adept and, therefore, prepared for the further
treatments to be taught you in the forthcoming lessons.|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 3HARMONIOUS FOOD COMBINATIONSGreat
harm is done the body through the mistakes made in the combination of foods and this can be a frequent cause of digestive
trouble. Especially is this likely to occur when meat is eliminated from the diet and there is a lack of experience in substituting
other articles.There
have been many suggestions for food combining rules espoused by various health authorities during the past century and, while
all of them are helpful to some degree, I have had the best results with those recommended by R.S. Clymer, M.D.,America's
first expert.I have
found his rules adequate for almost all patients, but they are still sufficiently rational that they allow for easy meal planning.Improper food combinations can cause
chemical ‘inharmony' which is productive of certain harmful acids, poisons, toxins, and unwanted gases; it is weakening
and brings on needless suffering, destructive disease, and the possibility of an early death.GOOD FOOD COMBINATIONS:+Milk and ONE starchy food (potatoes with jackets, whole grain bread,
brown or wild rice, etc.) +Milk, honey and starch foods +Milk, starch, eggs (best results by beating egg white with
the milk and using the egg yolk at another meal) +Milk and bananas (if skins are brown) +Milk, Ry-Krisp and sweet
butter +Milk, whole grain bread OR corn bread OR muffins, and honey Fish ONE starch (baked potatoes, etc.) 1 or
2 cooked vegetables Meat, ONE starch (baked potatoes, etc.), vegetable salad (raw), extra vegetable (cooked or raw) Eggs, used as desired with green salads, cooked or raw vegetables and ONE starch; eggs combine well with cheese (eggs DO
combine well with dairy products, an exception to the usual rule of one protein at a meal) See DIET:
A KEY TO HEALTH for proper use of the WHITE and EGG YOLK (consult July's RECOMMENDED READING list for more information) Legumes,
beans and lentils must be well-balanced with fresh and cooked vegetables, and are a complete food requiring NO STARCH Fruit and olive oil; fruit and nuts, prunes, dates, figs, raisins and nuts Onions boiled in milk Oyster boiled in milk
(oyster stew)
BAD COMBINATIONS:
Fruit with meals* | Meat and fresh bread (home baked) | | Tomatoes and starch | Milk and acid fruits | | Tomatoes and dry
beans | Milk with meat, fish, beans, or fowl | | Milk and tomatoes and/or cucumbers | Two different proteins
at one meal | | Meat and sweets | Two different starches at one meal | | Desserts (fruit, berries or preserves
with Regular meals; pies, cakes, sweets, candy, ice cream, etc.) | *Note: Fruits digest quicker than the heavier and coarser foods, and fermentation results with subsequent symptoms which may
follow at once or may not be noticed in stronger constitutions until years later, resulting in disease in some form or another.
THAT IS THE REASON FRUITS ARE BEST EATEN BY THEMSELVES.DIETETIC RULES:Vegetables or salads should make up one-half to two-thirds of the meal Eat fruits
only between meals or else make a meal of fruit alone*Never overeat at any time Eat only when hungry; masticate your food well , particularly
starches Eat only one starch at a meal Eat one meal a day without starch Eat only one protein at a meal (see
exception of eggs above)
Fruits should never be served with any other class of food, not even with vegetables.
They are at their best and have their greatest value when served early in the morning – one-half hour before breakfast;
between meals and before retiring are also excellent times. They may be eaten with nuts, however, and as such, make and excellent
small meal.+Note: While these milk and starch combinations are digestable, they are also very acid and congesting. They could all be more
balanced with the addition of cooked or raw vegetables.|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 4VRILThere
is, in the atmosphere about us, a substance which cannot only help us to heal but can help us to gain strength and creativity
in all fields of endeavor. While it is not oxygen or ozone, it is related to these substances. Sir Bulwer Lytton, in his novel
The Coming Race, coined the word VRIL for this compound. Since I am not at liberty here to divulge the true name and nature
of this ethereal essence, I shall use Mr. Lytton's VRIL in describing its use.A healing Philosophy, to be sound, must rest upon a firm foundation.
When we plug in an electrical appliance and experience all the wonders of modern technology, we should be aware and remember
that somewhere there is a dynamo (power plant) that produces electricity which makes our modern world run. Should this dynamo
stop, our world would come to a screeching halt. The same is true of the VRIL. There is within our solar system a VRIL world
in which the VRIL is produced. From this center, VRIL is made available for all of our needs in the same way that the electrical
power plant will supply the electricity for an entire community.Without VIRL none of us could live. Very small amounts of it are essential to
all human life. It is possible, however, to consciously and deliberately draw in and retain much larger amounts for the purpose
of self healing and body regenerating. This process will be taught in this and future healing lessons. But first let me illustrate the use of VRIL by analogy. Most
modern electronic gear, in order to keep its circuits in proper functioning shape, is on all the time. That is, a small amount
of current is sent through the machine even though it is turned off. This is considered best to keep all the circuit boards
healthy and stable. It is only when full power is fed to these circuits, however, that they are able to do their full work
and produce the desired effect from the machine. Now
it is exactly the same with the human body. We all take in, with each breath, this VRIL, but retain just enough to keep our
body's "circuit boards" alive; the rest is expelled back into the atmosphere. Through conscious effort though, we
can "turn on" our machine by inhaling and retaining sufficient VRIL to allow this body to perform up to manufacturer's
specifications.In order
that man may use this VRIL power, he must first prepare himself through a method of practice that will make him a natural
receiver of this power. This method of practice in the physical plane consists mainly of eating natural foods (foods as prepared
by Nature, not by man's processing) properly combined (See Lesson #3) and eliminating as many as possible of the toxic and
congesting substances from the body.On the
mental and emotional plane, the VRIL force can only be retained in a person who is pure in heart and who is constantly working
to free himself from the unwanted slavery of such emotions as hate, anger, jealousy, envy, resentment, greed and the like.
VRIL is such a pure substance that it cannot long remain in the person who would attempt to use if for ill.I must admit that these prerequisites would seem to restrict
the use of this marvelous substance, but in practice, this is not a real problem, due to two circumstances. First, in general,
VRIL use will be attempted only by truly superior people, and these can understand well the reason for the restrictions and
are not only willing, but eager to obey them. Second, as one begins to follow the VRIL practice, the power of this substance
will gradually change the entire being and these requirements become easier and easier to follow. The first step for the student to take, if he desires to use
the VRIL to heal (himself or others) is to become harmonious within himself. Nothing will do more towards this end than the
daily repetition of a body and soul elevating Mantram.*Besides the use of these Mantrams, it is necessary to regulate the life so as to free
the self from that which brings neither happiness nor peace. This will be fully taught in this series of lessons. For one month, repeat the following
Mantram for 3 minutes at a time, one to three times a day. Do not overdo this practice, for a natural growth is best."Father, fill my soul with Divine
Love. Let my Soul be so filled with thy Divine Love that there can be in it no room for evil, hate or jealousy. Let my Soul
be so filled with thy Divine Love that I may manifest Love in All I DO, so that no evil can come near me from without."We shall have more on the VRIL next
month. Prepare your body and soul now, for in the next lesson I teach you how to draw in the VRIL force.* Mantram: A recited phrase which elevates body functions
and protects from evil by a combination of ethereal and auditory vibrations.|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 5THE BREATHYou
are now ready to learn the proper method of bringing VRIL into your being. Never forget, however, that the VRIL can remain
only in proportion to the welcome it receives. If it meets distrust, resentment or other negative emotions there is little
reason for it to stay.The
perfect life is the life that takes all things into consideration, and gives to the emotions and spirit as much as it gives
to the body.Remember
this: He who wills to accomplish, CAN accomplish. That is the LAW and must ever be so. Forces may at times assail us; but,
like truth, "crushed to earth," we will rise again and be stronger than ever.Every thought is a vibration. The holding of any thought produces,
in time, results accordingly; for through the vibrations produced by the thought, are both body health and emotional
stability established.The
Special Mantrams taught you bring about strong vibrations and, there fore, produce greater results in a much shorter time
than otherwise.For
the next month, hold the same Divine Mantram given in the former lesson. But, while holding the Mantram, follow deep breathing,
the reason for which will be taught you in future lessons. The best system to follow is the following:Sit or stand erect. Close the mouth, and breathe only through
the nostrils. Inhale steadily, first filling the lower part of the lungs. This is accomplished by bringing into play the diaphragm,
which, descending, exerts a gentle pressure on the abdominal organs, pushing forward the front walls of the abdomen. Then
fill the middle part of the lungs, pushing out the lower ribs, breast-bone, and chest. Now fill the higher portions of the
lungs, protruding the upper chest including the upper six pairs of ribs. In the final movement, the lower part of the abdomen
will be slightly drawn in, which is a good movement to give the lungs a support, as it were; and it also helps to fill the
higher part of the lungs.The
whole exercise is one gradual breath. It must not be done in jerks, but in gradual movements so as neither to strain nor tire
the muscles of the lungs. In the beginning it must be taken very gradually and it will seem a little difficult; but practice
will soon make perfect. After breathing in, retain the breath for a few seconds, not long enough, however, to become really
tiresome. Now exhale slowly, holding the chest in a firm position and draw the abdomen in a little and lift it upwards slowly
as the air leaves the lungs. When the air is completely breathed out, relax the chest and abdomen for a few seconds.Take this breathing exercise only during
the time you hold the Mantram, which is to be no more than three (3) times a day, and no more than five (5) minutes at a time.
If desired, the breathing exercise may be taken for from three to five minutes just before the holding on the Mantra.|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 6VRIL and Our Inner BeingThe
world was a long time in accepting the powers of the mind, magnetism and electricity. All of these were unseen. They could
not readily be grasped by the five senses, and so for thousands of years their powers lay untapped by the majority of mankind,
who toiled arduously for centuries under tasks which now are easily handled by these willing servants. The world will be even
slower to accept the sublime truth of VRIL, as it is even more difficult to comprehend and control than these other forces.
Nevertheless, its power transcends them to a far greater degree than they do the force of human arm and leg. Only a very few
will come into the use of these VRIL forces, however, because not many will take the time and effort to earnestly follow the
instruction given here.As electricity
and magnetism are only useful once they are contained and encased, so is it with VRIL. To be an effective force, the VRIL
must be concentrated and stored within the body. This cannot take place in the physical organs of the body nor in the mind.
There is only one part of the human being that is sufficiently refined and pure to contain and hold the VRIL. That is the
Human Soul*, that angelic part of us which is a fire and a direct emanation from God. Since this Soul is made of substance
which shares the same plateau of being as the VRIL, it can inter-act with this ethereal material in a way that the physical
body and mind cannot. Once the Soul has captured the VRIL substance, however, the mind can help direct it to the body or to
others for health and healing.VRIL
has existed since the foundation of the world and is the force used by all true healers. It was the force used by the Master
Jesus of Nazareth in all his healing, and as so eloquently demonstrated, it even has the power to raise the dead when used
by one who has complete mastery of its force. At this
time a very careful distinction must be made between Faith Healing and the healing with VRIL forces. All faith healing is
based on the Law, "thy faith hath made thee whole". It is the faith of the person who wishes the healing which produces
the result, not any particular force or energy emanating from the so-called healer. The purpose of faith healer is only to
produce a sufficiently charismatic show that the subject is convinced that he or some power working through him can cure him
(the subject). The so-called healer could be the worst scoundrel the world has ever seen and still produce marvelous cures
in the name of God or whatever, just so long as the patient has the faith in him at that moment of a cure. You might ask.
"Can such cures be permanent?" Yes, if the patient is able to sustain his faith. An example comes to mind of a Doctor
who was supposed to remove a malignant tumor from a lady's breast. As an experiment he made an incision and then sewed her
up. She thought the tumor was gone and that she was cured. Upon examination a month after the operation, the Doctor could
no longer find the cancer; it had disappeared. Many years later, due to a legal suit on another matter, it became public knowledge
what the Doctor had done. Within a month of this lady hearing the news, the tumor returned, and in six months she was dead
of cancer. Her faith alone had conquered and controlled the cancer, and when this was broken, she rapidly fell victim to this
dread disease.Whether
the faith healer is some truly devout TV minister, or Anton Mesmer, with his animal magnetism, or and African witch doctor,
or some traveling charlatan, the method is all the same. They must stimulate sufficient faith in the patient to cure himself.
There is absolutely nothing else in such healing. Healing
with VRIL is entirely different. It can be used on sleeping children, animals, and even those who are mentally deficient and
who therefore have no idea of what you are doing. VRIL is a measurable force, the same way that magnetism and electricity
are measurable forces. As these lesser forces are regulated by exact laws, so is the VRIL. The only difference is that you
do not yet find the laws of VRIL in a physics textbook, but as recently as 200 years ago, there were almost no electrical
laws in these books, so who can tell what the next 200 will bring.*For you who are interested in more information on this subject, write, or call
us at 800-779-3796 or 800-300-5168 and we will send you the free exciting brochure, "Awakening the God Within."|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 7The Mystery of VRILFollowing
the destruction of Atlantis, Egypt was the center of the world's knowledge. At its peak, men there lived, understood and demonstrated
the use of VRIL as herein taught. In that country, at that time, they used this power of VRIL as we now use electricity. It
was not, as is taught by our materialistic scientists, thousands of slaves who moved the huge stones for the pyramids, but
the enormous power of this VRIL.In Egypt
there were men who devoted their entire lives to the discovery and working-out of the laws of God and nature. They were the
harmonious instruments through which the VRIL worked. These men were careful to secret away this newly attained knowledge,
however, for when they saw the citizens of their country falling into materialism they knew it would be unsafe to trust them
with these profound secrets.Searching
throughout the ancient Egyptian temples one is able to find hieroglyphs which clearly illustrate the use made of VRIL energy.
Within these ruins one finds illustrations of priests in the act of giving treatments to the sick, using the power of VRIL.Since this age, with its mighty priesthood,
we have already passed through the physical age and are just now bringing the mental age to a close. Soon, the age of the
Soul shall reign once again. In this age, the power of the Soul shall be used for the healing of the nations and men shall
make use of VRIL to help the more unfortunate.Just
as the Dark Ages preceded the Renaissance, which was the beginning of the mental age, so are we now in the "Dark Ages"
of mental age, ripe for the new renaissance which shall remove the clouded darkness and give birth to the brilliant light
of the Soul age.In the
same manner in which the Church of those earlier Dark Ages resisted the light of Galileo's understanding, so do the intellectuals
of today resist the dawning of the new age in which their overbearing power might begin to wane. The Church of Galileo's time controlled the minds of the people
by its strict dogma. The Pope and his ecclesiastics were wise enough to realize that if they allowed independent scientific
investigation to prove them in any way wrong, their power over the people would rapidly dwindle. They tried everything they
could to stop scientific development, but to no avail. No man or group of men can stop progress. The scientists did finally
usher in the mental age and the Church lost much of its power. Now we are at a time in world history when the shoe is suddenly on the other foot.
Our vaulted intellectuals and scientists have brought us to the very brink of chaos and self-destruction. They have given
us the power of great knowledge, but it is all for naught, for they are incapable of showing us how to use this power for
good.They are now in
the same position as was the Church at the time of Galileo. They are espousing a dogma which no longer satisfies the needs
of the people.Only
those trained in the Science of the Soul can carry forth the banner of salvation in this new Soul age. Many intellectuals
who either consciously or subconsciously realize this are now trying to suppress all such information from reaching the people,
much in the way the Church suppressed science long ago, and for the same reason – the fear of losing power. The scientist today is correct in his
fears as was the Church in its. The power of the Soul transcends the mind in the same way as the mind transcends the physical.
The leaders of one age will not necessarily be the leaders in the next. The physically strong may not be the best candidate
for mental excellence. Neither is the intellectual necessarily a good applicant for Soul development. We see this battle between the mental and the spiritual all
around us, and this is the major cause of our present universal turmoil. Fear not, however; the superior always wins over
the lesser and the Soul advocates shall triumph. One needs only be concerned with that side which one personally supports.
He who clings to the old, shall go down with the old.For the next month follow the instructions given in lessons four and five, as it will
require that much time for you to grow into the vibrations and powers that the Sacred Mantrum confers upon those who are faithful
to it.|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 8The Nature of AirAir
contains oxygen, ozone, other lesser gasses and VRIL. VRIL is a light; it is heat and it is part of God, the living fire.
VRIL is a fire because it is life. It is life because it is heat and it is light, which is a part of heat.VRIL is a part of the air, yet is lighter than air and thus
gives its fire to the weightier ozone, which is the life of man. This ozone produces the fire in man which gives heat to the
blood.Oxygen is the life
of air. Ozone is the power in the air. Oxygen and ozone are denser forms of VRIL. They are necessary, for God is both life
and power.The
VRIL is the life-power of the spirit, which has been called the life of all things.According to the ancient philosophies, man is divided into
four parts –- body, soul, spirit and mind. The
body is formed from the earthly elements. The soul is a small part of God which man may develop to consciousness if he so
desires. The spirit is from God, is the life of man and is for his use while on earth. At the death of the body the spirit
returns, as energy, to the Godhead. The mind of man is that unique entity which results from the union of body, spirit and
soul. We may compare the spirit of man to the germ in the grain of wheat. Without the germ the wheat is dead – but a
random mixture of fats, protein and carbohydrate. But with the germ the small grain of wheat can became a full stalk of life-giving
wheat containing many more grains of wheat, each of which may in turn repeat this process. Thus, it is possible that the germ
in a single grain of wheat could in time become a field of wheat which is capable of sustaining the lives of many men. Such
is the power of the spirit, not only in the wheat germ but in man as well. The spirit is the life or germ of man and of all living thins. In this spirit,
however, is a still greater principle, which we call VRIL. The VRIL is taken in with each breath we take, but unless we consciously
attempt to retain it we absorb only enough to sustain life. Those of you who have been following these healing lessons will know by now how to retain
more of this life-giving and power-producing principle. If you have been faithful with your exercises you will gradually gain
power for greater life and should eventually be able to use the VRIL force to help heal not only yourself, but others also.Man, being next to the Gods in that
he has free-will, is the only being who can consciously retain the power of VRIL, but in order to do this he must live a life
as harmonious with God's will as possible. VRIL, due to its inherent nature, cannot be used for evil or harmful purposes,
and if such feelings predominate in the person attempting to retain it, almost all will pass back out upon exhalation. It
can only be retained in a body where the thoughts and desires are constructive and benevolent. In these lessons we are attempting to teach you to become
a VRIL-healer. This you can do by first obeying the instructions as you receive them, and then by living the life as taught
in future lessons. In many cases it will also be necessary for you to teach your patients how to live so that they may remain
free from illness in the future; all these things will be taught you.Your thoughts are the bricks which build your spiritual temple. If they are kept
on beautiful and constructive subjects all is well, but if the mind dwells on resentments, wrongs done against you, fears
of future, etc., what kind of temple can you expect to erect? The easiest way to improve the thoughts is to fill the mind
with beautiful pictures, harmonious music and uplifting literature. Since the mind can only think of one thing at a time these
will help to displace the injurious thought patterns.Follow the breathing exercises as before and repeat to yourself the following mantram
for five minutes after you have taken the breathing exercises."I will open my being to the influx of the VRIL forces from the world of
VRIL. I desire to take in enough that I may gradually become what God has intended I should be. I will make only good use
of the power as it is given to me and never attempt to use it for evil or unfair advantage."|Top|
Healing Lesson No. 9THE
SPIRITAs mentioned in
the last lesson, that which is called Spirit throughout the Bible, and which is often confused with the Soul (the spark of
God in man), is the life of all things.Spirit
is the principle that gives life to man and beast, to tree and flower – in fact, to ALL that lives, whatever its form. When the life of a thing ceases, the
Spirit principle leaves it and returns to the Father, who gave it originally. Some forms possess more of the Spirit than others and we say they are "full
of life," healthy, vital, or that they are powerful.God in no way limited the amount of this Spirit a man could use. Consequently, man alone
is to blame if he does not make full use of this life force and become a viril, magnetic being. This life is in the air that we breathe. The deeper we breathe,
the more of this vital force we inhale. This is one of the reasons that jogging and running have recently became so popular.
The forced increase in breathing during these exercises infuses the body with additional Spirit and the person feels "alive"
and vital.Unlike
VRIL, which can be retained only through the conscious effort of the breather, the Spirit can be utilized by all if they will
but exercise, breathe deeply and properly, and eat natural foods so that this life principle will have the necessary elements
with which to interact.It is
also important that the foods be properly combined, as taught in Healing Lesson No 3, in order to obtain the best results
from the involved Spirit.One
should not confuse the Spirit with VRIL, however. A person brimming with Spirit is still only a splendid, vital animal. There
is nothing particularly spiritual about Spirit. It is only an animating principle which resides in all living things. The
worst of human villains may have as much, or even more, than a great benefactor. Men such as Hitler and Genghis Khan were
full of Spirit, while saints, poets and philosophers may well have far less due to their inactivity and shallow breathing.Spirit, therefore, is only as good as
the use of which it is put. It is only a fickle force which will serve all, for good OR ill, in the same way that fire can
either give heat and preserve life, or burn and destroy life if misused. The fault is not of the fire but of the men who use
it improperly. So it is with Spirit.VRIL,
on the other hand, cannot be used for harm. While it, like Spirit, is also in the air we breathe, it is a much more refined
substance and is of such a nature that it is antagonistic and destructive to all that is evil. Should a person attempt to
breathe in the VRIL and direct it to a nefarious purpose, as can readily be done with the Spirit, the VRIL would react in
such a way as to destroy the evil doer.It has
been said that while Spirit is the life of the ordinary or carnal man, VRIL is the life of the enlightened or spiritual man.You can become this VRIL-animated person
if you but follow two important instructions. First, carry through with the breathing drill and Mantra as taught you in this
course, and second, do all you can to come into the true ""spirit" of the person you wish to become. In order to do this you must follow
a natural, healthful dietary regime and take care to follow the laws which will be taught you as to sleeping, bathing, and
exercise. While these are being put in order, you will want to develop that essential frame of mind by which you can direct
your thought process to that which is good and constructive, thereby gradually eliminating the non-good from your being. For the next month, repeat the following
Mantra 3 times a day for 3 minutes at a time, the last time just before going to sleep. Do the abdominal breathing exercises
preceding the Mantra.I WILL
SO ATTUNE MY BODY, MIND, AND SOUL THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO DRAW INTO MY LUNGS THE VRIL AND MAKE IT A PART OF MY BEING. THE POWER
OBTAINED WILL HELP ME REACH THE HIGHEST PERFECTION AND GIVE ME STRENGTH TO HELP OTHERS. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 10IMAGERYAt last medical science is starting
to catch up with us. On one of the popular cable news channels last week an entire program was devoted to the power of the
positively directed mind in averting and overcoming disease.During this program several physicians described the methods of mental imagery which
they use to cure or control disease in themselves. The methods suggested are very close to those that you have been taught,
with the exception that those given you are fully explained. Science now accepts that these healings can occur but is still
not sure of the modus operandi. There
is a glimmer of the truth seeping through the "gauze curtain," for at the end of the program St. Thomas Aquinus
was quoted to the effect that nothing in the world is above natural cause; those things which we call miracles are only natural
phenomena we do not yet understand. This
is the underlying basis of all these healing lessons. A recent letter from a subscriber chastised us for attempting to expound
on our religious beliefs, instead of teaching the way of health. NOT SO! While the methods taught may use some of the same
words that are used in our churches, they are used to teach a practical physical health science as down-to earth as taking
a bath or brushing your teeth. When
you practice the Mantra (call it a "concentration phrase" if that is more to your liking) you are creating a health
effect just as prosaic as eating good food or taking vitamins.VRIL is a physical substance no less real than electricity or magnetism. If you
can't find it in a physical book, that is the writer's fault for being too backward, not ours for being to visionary. It is probably true that our lessons
are ahead of their time, but should that not be considered as advantage, rather than a disadvantage? After all, who does not
want to be ahead of their time, and on the cutting edge of human development and advancement?IMAGERYThe human mind frequently has problems reasoning in the abstract. All of the great
teachers, including Jesus, used parables and/or imagery to reach their listeners' minds. In the use of the mind to heal yourself and others such imagery
is also the method of choice. There
is a physician I have heard of who, whenever faced with an infection in his own body, imagines his white cells (our disease
fighters) to be hungry bulldogs who ran around in the blood and tissues devouring all the evil bacteria and viruses they can
find. The image of the bulldogs is much more vivid than the thought of an amorphous blood cell and is, therefore, more likely
to bring about the desired effect. The
full extent of this power was recently demonstrated in the scientific community by the work of a doctor and his research team
with cancer. They have shown by laboratory and clinical means that he was able to stop the advance of cancer and strengthen
the immune system by daily imagery of this effect. When he purposely stopped the imagery, the tests showed the cancer once
again advancing and the immune system weakening. The Methods
taught you in these healing lessons are the most advanced form of healing known to man, but they are not based on religion
or faith (as important as these are). They are instead based upon the most solid fundamental scientific laws. They cannot
help, however, unless you put them to work in your own life. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 11THE
BREATH OF LIFEThe
methods that produce first health, second vitality, and third the ability to heal, are very simple. This fact accounts for
their having been overlooked by countless thousands of those who have been in search of either health or the power to heal.
The mystery that always surrounds this subject will be entirely absent in these lessons, for we have attempted to pull away
the veil that has, invariably, shrouded the true science of healing, and presented the truth to you in these lessons, as clearly
and as plainly as is within our power. The
first condition necessary to become a successful healer is perfect health, and this cannot be obtained unless you are willing
to follow the instructions that will give you health.A person may be possessed of a great amount of magnetism or vital energy but it may be
unevenly distributed, as so often the case with brain workers. Although within the body are already the forces that should
give perfect health, there is a condition of dis-ease because of the imperfect distribution. The two greatest generators of
this vital magnetism are the lungs and the stomach, though every other organ and every other part of the body plays a part
in supplying the forces or making the proper conditions for its reception and retention. To be in full health it is necessary to breathe a great deal
of fresh air, eat natural and properly prepared foods, avoid overloading the stomach, bathe regularly and properly, and use
the lungs sufficiently. Upon this lung power, will depend your magnetic, and healing forces.Every morning you should breathe pure air for at least five
to ten minutes. Inhale slowly, allowing the air to enter the very depths or lower regions of the lungs then exhale slowly.
These exercises are to be practiced once or twice during the day as the opportunity presents itself. Breathing in this manner
will fill all of the organs of the body with an equal share of vital oxygen and magnetism, which in time will turn into health
for you and the ability to heal others. If you would help others in their own healing, you would do well to instruct them
in this same system of breathing, warning them always not to carry it to excess. These breathing exercises in the morning are of utmost importance
if you desire to become a successful healer. In fact, they are necessary no matter what you intend to become for they are
the very foundation of all power. To realize
the importance of these breathing exercises, but to not do them is of no greater benefit to you than if you remained in total
ignorance. The proper thing to do is to know, to determine and then to do. It is only by doing, only by following the instructions
in these lessons, that you will gain the true benefit inherent in these lessons. You have reached your present state of growth through evolutionary
development, which has been on your part involuntary, But you have now reached a state of being where it is possible for you
to hasten all development that has to do with yourself. For you are now learning to know, and instead of being forced to do
this or that by Nature, you can begin to work in harmony with her for your own personal advancement and development.Take your time in getting out of bed
in the morning. Wake up slowly. Yawn and stretch to give the vital organs the chance to resume their work gradually. Do not
be in a hurry. Stretch the arms, the legs the entire body. This will wake you up thoroughly and refresh you in every way.
Watch the baby awaken, and follow its example.Cultivate
the habit of sleeping in an attitude that is conducive to health. Lie either on the back or the right side with the shoulders
thrown back so that you can breath deeply. Be sure that plenty of fresh air enters through a window that has been open or
that is opened at all times, when the weather permits. The purpose of lying on the right side is so that you do not cause
an encroachment upon the heart which would occur should you sleep upon the left side.Following the stretching process, it is of great benefit to give
the body an air bath. This you can do in bed or you can take it just before the morning bath. Usually the easiest thing to
do is, after you take off your bed clothes, simply to allow a certain time for the circulating air of the bedroom and/or bathroom,
to play upon the naked body. In this way many of the vital organs are stimulated in a way that cannot be accomplished in any
other manner. In the next lesson you will be instructed in the proper manner of taking the healing bath each morning, that
can be used to vitalize the entire body in preparation for the day's work. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 12THE
SCIENCE OF CLEANLINESSThis
lesson is about bathing or the science of cleanliness. At one time almost no one bathed; now, perhaps, some tend to bathe too frequently. As
with all things, there is a proper and improper way to proceed. If you wish to become a healer (for yourself or others), you
must also become a teacher of health so that you can best serve those who seek your aid. After each act of healing Jesus would
say to his subject, "Go thy way and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you." We must not only learn to heal
ourselves and others, but we must learn and inculcate the Laws of Life and Health so that we and others will not in ignorance
continue the bad habits which have caused the original complaint. It is impossible to store a considerable amount of vital magnetism and VRIL unless
the body is kept in a clean condition. This is due to the fact that when we breathe the breath of life we not only take the
VRIL into the lungs, but we also absorb it through the pores of the skin. If these pores are not open and free of accumulated
deposits, little of this absorption is possible. This
explains the value of the air bath. Ideally, the cleansing bath should come first and the combination breathing exercise and
air bath should be taken directly after. This combination is of inestimable value to the digestion and the nervous system.
It is amazing how much melancholy, apathy, and depression vanishes once this program is initiated. The best medium for bathing is water which is not too warm.
Tepid water, Ivory or Castile soap, and a rough washcloth are the means to a good bath. Step into the water and, filling the
clothe with water and soap suds, begin with the feet, gradually working toward the abdomen. When you have reached the abdomen
, kneel in the water and wash the trunk and shoulders. Next sit in the water and finish the rest of the body. When the washing is done, turn on the
cold water and let the water become cool while you are in it.Now stand up and begin drying the body with a rough towel, working downwards and ending
at the feet.A bath
of this nature may be taken two or three times a week with great benefit. The important things to remember are that the water
must not be too hot, for then it will absorb vitality from the body, and that the bath must not be unduly prolonged. Five
to ten minutes at a time is sufficient.A hot
soaking bath is occasionally useful, but it should be taken for relaxation and one should go to bed directly after it.The bath for generation and storing
vitality is the morning cold bath.In order
to have this as perfect as possible, fill the tub with cold water, from the tap, just before retiring. Allow this to stand
until morning when you will find it at room temperature. After taking your stretching exercises in bed, come to the bathroom
and undress. Before taking the bath, wash hands and face and cleanse the teeth. Following this, step into the bathtub with
one foot first, then with the other; now throw water toward the shoulders. Next, lie in the water for a few seconds, taking
a full breath and holding it while you are lying in the water. Now stand upright, exhale, and with a coarse bath towel begin drying the skin
from the shoulders down, ending with the feet. When
done drying, you should do your breathing exercise and air bath, after which you are ready to dress for the day. These measures are simple, as are all
truly beneficial procedures, but if they are precisely and consistently followed, the health and outlook of even the most
wretched will change, like magic.Next month
we'll teach you about internal cleanliness. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 13REMOVING
IMPURITIESIn the
former lesson, you were taught the principles of bathing and anointing the body for the production of health and vitality.
In the future lesson you will be taught the different oils and the method of giving the oil bath to patients. It is from the
anointing of patients as employed by the ancient priests, that our present-day church has received its system of giving extreme
unction. The bath taught you thus for has to do only with the body. There are four principal avenues by which the system is enabled to free itself
from impurities. These avenues are the kidneys, bowels, skin, and lungs. The method of freeing the lungs from impurity is
through the system of deep breathing which you have already been fully taught. We now will devote our self to the kidneys,
which have possibly the greatest amount of work to perform in the body's detoxifying procedure. However, it is not hard for
them to accomplish this task if you will but follow Nature's way.Commence by taking a cup of warm water, as warm as you can comfortably swallow,
and to this add a pinch of salt. Gradually increase the amount (of water) until you can take a pint or more at a time. This
should be done, in the beginning, at least three times a day. It is best to take this in the morning after the bath; at, noon,
one hour before the meal; and in the afternoon, one hour before the evening meal. If desired, it is also an excellent thing
to take about two hours after the last meal. When you take this water into the stomach, it acts upon every avenue, canal,
and duct of the liver, kidneys, and the other eliminating organs. It finally passes from the body in a natural manner after
having done a most important work of purging the organs of impurities and foreign matter. This warm water treatment should be continued for a number
of weeks, gradually taking less and less of the warm water, and more and more of pure, cold water, so as to get the system
into a natural state without any undue shock. The
bowels can be regulated by means of the diet; but very often this would be too slow a process, and, therefore, it is at times
very important to take the internal bath. From your local drugstore, obtain a 2-quart enema bag with all the proper attachments.
Before using,, fill it a number of times with very hot water, in which you dissolved some ivory or good castile soap. After
washing it a number of times, fill it up with some of this castile-water, and hang it up, allowing the solution to remain
in the bag for several hours. Finally , empty it, rinse it, and rinse it again. It is now ready for use.In order to use, take, to begin with, about a quart of warm
water to which you have added ½ teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). The water
should be of such a temperature that you can hold your hand in it comfortably. Put this water into the bag, being careful
to close the valve, and hang it up against the wall of the bathroom, so that about one foot of rubber tubing remains in the
floor. It is wise to be dressed as for retiring, since it is much easier to take the bath in this attire; besides, it is always
best to take the internal bath just before retiring, whenever possible. Now, take a position on the floor, lying prone; insert
the plastic tube into the rectum by way of the anal opening, and open the valve of the bag. The water will immediately begin
to flow into the large bowel, and if your water is warm there will be no discomfiture. Should there be pain, and a desire
to pass off the water before all of it has entered the large bowel, it is well for you to kneed the abdomen and to fight this
desire, for, in a few seconds this desire should pass away. Such discomfiture usually means that either the water is being
introduced into the large bowel too rapidly, and is ballooning the walls of the colon, thereby causing the pain, or there
is a spasm of the colon which is being dilated by the entering water. In either case, the situation can be remedied by waiting
a short time without putting in further water, until that water which is now in the colon can more evenly distribute itself.
Once this occurs, water may again be introduced, but at a slower pace than previously. In this way, the ballooning effect
is prevented, and any spasms will be gradually broken up, painlessly. If the pain and irritation elicited by the internal
bath does not go away promptly with these simple measures, there may be some form of disease or pathology of the large bowel.
In this case, the wisest thing would be to seek the attention of a natural healing physician near you, and request him to
make and examination and diagnosis of your condition. Once this is accomplished, you may either allow him to suggest proper
treatment, or, if you wish, communicate this information to us at Tel-Health; we will be glad to offer suggestions for a proper
resolution of this difficulty.After
all the water has entered the large bowel, retain it for a few minutes, and sit on the commode and allow it to pass off. While
most people will find it comfortable to take the internal bath in the prone, or face down, position, others will find it more
desirable to take the knee-chest position for this procedure. In many ways, the knee-chest position makes it easier to massage
the abdomen and to control the water than in the usual prone configuration. In general, the internal bath should always be taken with warm water. Sometimes,
in the case of looseness of the bowels, cooler water can be used. Hot water relaxes and cleanses the bowels, while cold water
stimulates and soothes them if they are inflamed. In his original texts, Dr. Clymer states that in hundreds of cases of cholera
morbis, dysentery, and the different summer complaints, he used the internal bath with cool water and a tablespoon of good
extract of witch hazel. He goes on further to say, that when this treatment was used, he did not lose a single case, but cured
every one of them within 24 hours. He also states, that not only can this treatment be given to adults, but children as well,
and it saves lives every time. He suggests that the amount of water used should be in proportion to the age of the one to
whom it is given, adults requiring from 1 to 3 quarts, and children from ½ pint to one quart.Attention must be drawn to the fact, however that cold water
introduced into the colon can have a severs shock on some systems, and therefor, one must be very cautious in using temperatures
much below body heat, without first carefully adapting the patient by starting with the warm-water internal baths, and then
gradually cooling them down, so that the patient is able to take them without inconvenience. It should be mentioned that, at our own Clinic, we have found
three conditions in which we do not recommend the internal bath. These are: advanced congestive heart trouble, amoebic dysentery,
and advanced ulcerative colitis. It is possible to aggravate, and even cause serious consequences if the internal bath is
used in patients with these conditions. If you have any doubt as to whether or not you are a good candidate for the internal
bath as described here, please contact a competent local natural health physician, and get his recommendation. In commencing this treatment, it is
best to begin with only a quart of warm water. Take the treatment every night for two weeks. After the second week, use two
quarts of water instead of one, and if the bowels are in fairly good condition, take the treatment only every other evening.Where the health is good, this internal
bath should be taken only once a week, in order to keep the bowels in a sanitary condition' but where the health is not good,
it may be beneficial to take it every night for a period of three months, or until health is restored. These last recommendations
are from Dr. Clymer's original monograph. I personally feel they are a little extreme for the average person, and I would
recommend, that in good health, the internal bath should not be taken more often than once a month, nor do I feel that it
is wise to take the internal bathe every day for any period of time, without being under the direct monitoring of a competent
natural health physician. That is not to say that the original recommendations are not valid, and may not greatly aid in sustaining
and obtaining health; it is only that I feel, to be on the safe side, such a procedure should be monitored by one who is trained
in natural healing techniques and who can be on hand to detect signs of the treatment's causing any difficulty. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 14THE
SCIENCE OF DIETETICSYou
have been taught concerning breathing, exercise, bathing (both internal and external). The next and one of the most important
questions is that of eating.Nature
has given man all the foods he needs, without taking of mammalian life, and we must always bear this in mind. But man is a
rational being, and he must carefully consider all things before he acts.As stated above, nature has surrounded man with a great variety of things to eat,
which in themselves contain all the vital factors and energy that he requires to sustain life. Yet, it still remains a fact,
that in many countries, particularly America, France, Germany, England, and other countries of the British Empire, man has
not considered this to be a fact, and so, consequently, for many centuries over half of his diet has been composed of animal
products, including meats, butter, milk, cheese, cream, fish, and seafood. These protein foods can be very important to the
human economy, and yet recent scientific discoveries have confirmed the earlier findings of R. Swinburne Clymer, M.D., that
show that, in general, we take in far more protein, especially in the form of meat and meat by-products, than is beneficial
for us. However, since our ancestors have for many centuries ingested large amounts of these animal products, their digestive
systems, and consequently, ours through heredity have been adapted to these types of foods. Considering this fact, any change
from this pattern must be a rational, gradual, and not a radical change. It is unwise for a man who has been in the habit of eating red-blooded meat and
whose ancestors for generations have been meat-eaters, to at once give up the eating of meat. This may, but not always does,
result in weakness of body and mind, because although in other natural foods there is a sufficient amount of vital necessities,
his system may not be able to take them up, and therefore a weakness may result. It has been my own personal experience that
when individuals accustomed by nature and heredity to the standard Western mixed diet become involved in some Eastern philosophies,
they have great trouble attempting to change their food habits suddenly into those of the Orient. The men tend to become docile
and lose that natural ambition and vitality which is part of the masculine character. Also the normal sexual drive, and integral
part of a young male, tends to abate under such and esthetic regime. The young women tend to cease menstruating or menstruate
only infrequently, become anemic, and victims of various diseases of borderline malnutrition. They frequently find this difficult
to understand, because their teacher apparently thrives on a similar diet. What they have not taken into consideration is
that their teacher from the East has lived on this diet all his life, and assuredly came from a family who lived on a similar
diet for many generations. You cannot change in a few weeks or even months that which has been in your genes for many generations. It is best to make any change in living
habits gradually and naturally. To do this, the student should gain knowledge of the value of different foods and also, if
he can, knowledge of the length of time required for their digestion. There are those who claim that man should even discard animal products such as
butter, milk and cheese. We do not approve of this extreme view, for these foods are often necessary, because the stomach
frequently is not able to digest fully the nuts and other vegetable oils which could and should give the proper amount of
fats to the system. It is best to begin this new life and diet gradually and without irrational ideas. Choose foods from the
vegetables, and fruits, and seafoods, the fishes, and the nut kingdoms that are required in order to give the proper food
values; continue to use red-blooded meats now and then until such a time as you have grown into the meatless habit. Even when
you have grown into the meatless habit, a time may come when, like the old habit of the smoker, the desire and the demand
for meat returns. This is indicated by a condition of acidity of the stomach, when the stomach will not digest anything that
is starchy, but turns the starches and carbohydrates into gas, and if care is not taken in proper time, nervous prostration
will result.If such
as acidity condition occurs to anyone, there are three ways of overcoming the trouble. The first is by the use of no other
food except milk, until the problem disappears. The second is to go back to a semi-red-blooded meat diet, until the condition
is overcome. Another is by a complete change of environment for the time being. In the case of mental workers, some manual
labor should be taken up; and in the case of those who do manual labor, a vacation with careful exercise should to taken. When you have developed to the point
where you feel that you yourself can be a healer, you can treat and cure every one of these foregoing cases, even those in
which the regular physician has failed. In such healing, however, always remember that no matter how irrational it may seem
at the time, whatever the patient was doing before the condition manifested is what produced the condition. Therefore, to
correct the condition, you should have the patient do the opposite of what he was doing before. In other words, if a man was
eating considerable amounts of meat and developed a problem, change the diet to an entirely different one, and the problem
will invariably leave. If a person was on a very strict vegetarian diet, and a problem developed, putting him temporarily
on a diet of meat or other animal products will probably cause the condition to vanish. The healer must always bear in mind that in these cases he
must use his most potent suggestions and his greatest healing power. On the one hand, suggestions that will free the mind
from delusions which are always present in these cases, and on the other, the healing force that will give strength to the
patient. When anyone is ill, his mind suddenly will think the strangest of thoughts. At this time, all but the most stoic
and disciplined become irrational, and it is the purpose of the physician or healer to counter this patient's irrational behavior.
If he does not, he will not help his patient. If you
desire to be a healer, you want to learn as much as you can about food and food reform. You should prepare yourself thoroughly,
so as to fully understand the details, that you may be able to answer the questions of your patients. The lessons that you
have received here will hold you in good stead; however, I still recommend that you read as many good books as you can on
this subject. I particularly recommend the book, Diet: The Key to Health, available from the Humanitarian Publishing Company.
This has been, since its first publication, and still is, one of the most popular books ever written on diet and health. For the healer, the non-red-meat
diet, which includes fruits, vegetables, nuts, butter, milk, cream, cheese, shellfish, fish, etc., is the best, and will give
him the greatest amount of health and power. But he must make the change gradually, rationally, and choose well the foods
that are to replace the meats that he currently eats. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 15PROPER
EATING HABITS(Much
of this home study course in healing comes from healing lessons produced by Dr. R. Swinburne Clymer. M. D. in 1913. Every
attempt has been made to bring the instructions up-to-date and into compliance with recent developments and discoveries. At
the same time we have tried to retain as much of the flavor and color of the original work as possible. In general, the opinions herein are those of Dr. Clymer's
circa 1913, except when in parentheses, in which case they are the editors'–GEP)It is a law of the physical organism that man must eat to
preserve, to recreate his body. Man must eat to live, though the many seemingly live to eat. The world is just wakening to
the fact, from both a physical and ethical point of view, that overeating is as deplorable as intoxication; that a gourmand
is as repulsive as a drunkard. There are other desires and ambitions than those that speak from the stomach. From the digestive tract can be traced many of the ills that
afflict the body. The stomach is a much-abused member of the eternal economy. It is frequently overloaded, and then whipped-up
to perform a service that Nature never intended. Sooner or later the whole process of digestion rebels, and man complains
of dyspepsia or other gastrointestinal in harmonies; thereupon he consults the doctor who, in nine cases out of ten, prescribes
for the effect, not the cause of the disease. This
doctor-habit can be a bad one. In most cases, we have a physician who uses what sense, reason, and judgement he possesses
in an effort to outwit Nature. He arrays all the drugs that the medical man is heir to against the God-made harmonious laws
of the body. A struggle ensues. The patient has both the disease and the drugs to overcome. The effect and the suffering continue.
A cure is only infrequently effected, and still the patient overeats. Nature repeats the warning until, disgusted with him
entirely, she throws him into the melting pot; and he becomes a part of history past. (Since this last paragraph was written
in 1913, the general intelligence and procedures of the medical profession in treating gastrointestinal problems has improved
considerably; however, unfortunately, not to the degree that we or Dr. Clymer may have hoped. There are still today, probably,
far more doctors who count on treating the symptoms of these gastrointestinal problems, than on actually helping the patient
to see his disobedience to the law of his being, and to offer him techniques and methods to correct this.)The best physician is the one that explains to the patient
the simple laws of Nature and of their application to his stomach. Instead of prescribing a digestive tablet or calmative
drug he will explain the folly of overeating; or rich, highly-seasoned foods and an undue amount of pastry; of eating too
fast, and also suggest that the stomach needs a rest in exactly the same way that the eyes or muscles of the body need periods
of quit. The stomach frequently needs to rid itself of a mass of undigested food.Three simple rules, if followed, will solve the whole problem.
The first is to skip a meal now and then; the second, to eat very slowly; the third is to make it a religious duty to accept
but a half-portion of and individual serving of anything placed on the table, to eat only half as much as you are in the habit
of doing. If these rules are faithfully observed, dyspepsia, bad skin, and a thousand and one other conditions will frequently
vanish like magic. (These rules laid down 70 years ago are as valid today as they were then. Just as an experiment, try following
this advice as close as you can for a period of two weeks. See if you don't find a definite improvement in your entire health.)Thought, backed by knowledge and good
sense, should guide mortals in all departments of life. In the question of fuel for the body, thought, not taste, should dictate
the quantity, and the time to eat. The sense of taste, though good in itself, is only an adjunct, not the arbiter, of the
situation. The taste is one of the functions of the body, and as such, must be subservient to, and not the instructor of,
the mind.Appetite
is an indefinite craving governed by taste. Hunger is an announcement of the stomach that the body needs replenishing, and
an appeal to the mind, master of the body, for a definite thing. Not often are people conscious of hunger. The sensation that
caters to the taste, is an abnormal condition. When a gaunt feeling possesses the stomach, it is considered hunger, and its
owner looks for a tempting dish. If it looks good and tastes good, he is satisfied to fill himself, never thinking of the
aftermath.The
feeling of dis-ease, of restlessness mistaken for hunger, is the reaction of the muscles of the stomach. Had they not been
stretched and overtaxed, that sensation would never be experienced. Hunger is a distinct impression and is felt in the mouth.
When the system needs water it is announced by a feeling, particular to itself, in the mouth. If the desire for water was
unnecessary no call would be registered. The same law is regard to food holds good, only the whole idea of eating has become
so perverted that we do not know how to interpret our own sensations.Colds, stiff necks, and sore throats are frequently charged to the changeableness
of the weather or drafts. With the stomach in order, none of these things can happen. No outside condition or circumstance
has power to harm us unless we allow it through the quality of thought we entertain. A belief in the harmful effect of a change
of temperature will produce a sore throat by causing the throat to swell and ache; still, in the majority of cases, we are
suddenly conscious of an abnormal feeling without any belief at all about it. When that occurs, ignorant of the cause, we
continue eating, more than usual, perhaps, instead of fasting until Nature removes the obstruction. When food is not digested
a fermented mass is passed on and the blood has to absorb the poisonous matter produced by this substance. By the law of its
nature, it must get rid of it as quickly as possible. In some cases it deposits it in the lungs; in others, in the throat,
the liver, the kidneys, and so forth. Where there is congestion it is an absolute declaration of Nature that poisonous matter
has been deposited there in its effort to throw it off. Assist Nature by refusing food, thereby allowing Nature, unimpeded,

Healing Lesson No. 16THE
IMPORTANCE OF THE BREATHNot
only are questions of diet and bathing of much importance in gaining and preserving health, but that of breathing is especially
important. Breath is life. Health is impossible without plenty of good, wholesome, fresh air. Most people pay far too little
attention to the matter of breathing. The
first thing to impress upon yourself and upon those you wish to help is the supreme necessity of deep, rhythmatic breathing.
It may be wise to show them just how to take a breath. Placing your hands on the lower ribs and asking them to extend the
sides of the body beneath your hands. Strength and vitality will flow to them. Complaints will vanish. Figures and complexion
improve with the establishment of the habit of deep, rhythmatic breathing. There is no substitute for fresh air. No chemical preparation can perform the
work allotted to the ozone and other elements of the atmosphere. Some systems of drugless healing lay stress on heated hands, claiming that they
are more effective, more electromagnetic. The healer should decide this question for himself from experience. Some of the
most successful practitioners place their hands in hot water, others heat them by rubbing them together prior to the treatment.
None of these practices is absolutely necessary; it is the mind, using the forces always present in the atmosphere, that does
the work. The hands are only secondary. No doubt, however, a very warm hand is agreeable to the patient, and, considered from
this standpoint of comfort, advisable.Many
patients, seeking the services of a healer, are the victims of general inertia, causing the so-called malady of hysteria,
nervousness, and a run-down condition. These people are really suffering from a lack of interest in their surroundings and
a lazy mentality. These conditions and their effects must be replaced through the mind of the patient. When you have succeeded
in arousing the interest and will power, a change will rapidly take place. While much of the problem with these patients is
in the mind, the balanced cure or correction requires the use of diet, exercise, and breathing; therefore, these three must
be discussed at length, and their correct use insisted upon. Much diplomacy is needed to deal successfully with this class
of patient. Many are sensitive about one or more of these subjects, especially that of diet. Nearly all the ills of life are
due to an adverse condition of the stomach; from overeating or from the wrong selection of food. In the case of nervous trouble,
try to find the vulnerable point in the patients' makeup. That is discover their likes and dislikes. If they happen to have
a hobby or some special thing they wish to acquire or do, talk on that subject. Encourage them in their desires if they are
worthy; if not, attempt to have them change these desires. Arouse interest, hope, expectancy, that they can have and be all
they dream. This is a splendid treatment, and always effective if it can be accomplished. Make them converse along optimistic,
positive lines. If they introduce negative, hopeless thoughts, cancel them by their opposites. Insist that only health, success,
the beautiful things of life be spoken of in your presence.Health and success are usually partners. Where there is vivid interest in one's desires,
faith, and absolute purity, there is health. In such a person failure, disease, and negative condition in general can find
no lodgment, The physical well-being is dependent on mental well-being. If the thoughts are right, the body cannot register
pain and in harmony.(These
words were written 70 years ago. Many discoveries, and much information has accrued since that time. An yet, none of this
has or does in any way change the import of these words. We now know that by the use of proper exercise and breathing. We
can stimulate in the brain what are called endorphins, which help to conquer pain and produce an optimistic attitude. Did
Dr. Clymer know of these endorphins? I don't know. I only know that the procedures he recommended are as successful today
in stimulating these same endorphins, as any that have been produced by our modern scientists. Science is a marvelous and
useful tool. Unfortunately, it is usually 50 to 100 years behind a dedicated intuitive philosopher, such as was Dr. R. Swinburne
Clymer.) |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 17DIGESTIONAs every cell of which the body is composed
is constantly in motion, these atoms, or cells, are in need of daily replenishing. This demand for fresh material is called
hunger. The variety of food called for is in response to the needs of the different kinds of cells that compose the different
organs-the skin, Nerves, bones, and all the rest that goes to make up the human body. From the moment food is taken into the mouth, the process
of preparing it for the renewal and use of the cells begins. Mastication, very thorough mastication, and insalivation are
necessary. Without this, the food is passed into the stomach unprepared. The gastric juices begin their action after the food
is mixed and softened with, and by, the saliva in the mouth. If this has been omitted, fermentation usually takes place and
all sorts of stomach disorders result.Digestion
is the process of preparing the food for absorption. If mastications has been thorough, the food is changed into chyme through
the action of the gastric juices and made ready to be taken up by the blood. The blood carries this nutriment to every part
of the body, and the cells assimilate it. Assimilation is the process that goes on in the cells whereby they use the food
conveyed to them by the blood. This
review of the process attending digestion is given for the purpose of emphasizing the necessity of mastication. The student
can easily comprehend its importance, and impress it on his patients. No organ in the body can perform the work of any other
part. If the tongue and teeth slight their work in the mouth, the effect felt as long as the food remains in the body. The question of diet is of the greatest
importance. Still it ought not to be so direful a question as food cranks would make us believe. Vegetarians, meat-eaters,
raw food theorists, all advocate individual ideas, and expect the nation to subscribe to them. Mountains of argument meet
anyone in sympathy with whichever idea happens to be promulgated. Neither the one nor the other idea is entirely right, for
the reason that all these individuals forget to recognize the great influence that climate has upon people. The man living
in India, China, Japan, and other like climates cannot take the same food as the man who lives in a far northern climate;
nor should the law that binds the man who lives in a tropical climate bind the man who lives in the middle zone.Diet must be combined so as to meet
the requirements of the climate under which one lives; otherwise, it is severely at fault. This does not imply that the man
in the north must live on meats because he requires a great amount of heat and energy; but it means that he must have those
foods which produce heat and energy, no matter from what kingdom he chooses them, though the foods chosen from the non meat
kingdom are always best.Second
to a wise selection of foods, is the question of carefully chewing it. Eat slowly and moderately and enjoy every mouthful
of what you eat. Masticate the food thoroughly before you swallow it.Eating in this manner is a good exercise in concentration. Whenever the impulse
presents itself to swallow the food before the liquid state has arrived, bring the mind back to the point and insist upon
continuing the taste-sensation.Bear
in mind that in treating others it is also of vast importance to teach them this great law and prevent further illness on
their part.In the
attainment or any success in life, whether health, wealth, or any other condition, the price is the same – concentration
on the object that is desired to be accomplished, right thinking, and the mastery, not only of details, but of the self and
the placing of the self in harmony with the great law.To cure others, you must not only help them to become whole, but to master themselves
as well. The diet question is but one
small question in successful living; in mastering it, health is restored and with this done, the next step is easier to take.
A man with a healthy body is better fitted to cope with financial and social conditions, and is already a long way toward
success, whatever his undertaking. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 18A PROPHET
IS NOT WITHOUT HONOR(There
is an old French saying which declares, "All diseases are curable, but not all patients." The methods of healing
taught to you are potent to cure all known diseases provided the patient will allow such a cure. While it must seem incomprehensible
to some that any person would not want to be healed, yet this is much more common than one might suppose. The two most frequent
reasons are: (1) fear of being disappointed again following many ineffective attempts at health, and (2) the inability to
mentally adjust to an active, responsible life after having lived a semi-invalid existence for many years. In this latter
instance we often find that these individuals have come to pattern their entire life around their ailment and are incapable
of imagining how they could live without it. –G.E.P.)The disciples of Jesus could not heal every disease; but Jesus had the power to cast
out error, sin, and sickness. In some instances, he used the formula: "According to thy faith so be it unto thee";
again he said, "Go thy way, and sin no more," In other places, however, he could do no mighty works because of their
unbelief. It is the same today as then. Even Jesus could not, or rather would not, force health on any man. As stated before,
the healing principle is in each man. The healer does not transfer something from himself into the patient; he simply arouses
the sleeping power within the patient to assume control and thus to produce health in place of sickness. If this resident
power is covered over with unbelief, lack of faith, or a rebellion against wholeness, no power on earth can penetrate that
armor. Each man is a law unto himself. If he will not be healed, who is to blame? If a patient comes to you, willing for you
to fail to help him, there is little chance of his getting relief. But if there is one little point left vulnerable in his
armor, your treatment may find its way into the thought of the patient and thus effect a cure. This is one reason why passivity
is insisted on, with a patient. In a passive condition, the bars are down, so to speak, and your thought vibrations can take
effect. It may not take effect at once; but, having been directed specifically to this one patient, it will hover about him,
until it has an opportunity to gain entrance and mingle with the inharmonious vibrations that have caused the illness. If
your treatment is a strong and virile one, much good will result at once; for positive, harmonious, rhythmic vibration is
very powerful and causes everything around it to vibrate in unison with it. If this unison is prolonged sufficiently, the
patient is cured, for health is harmony. Otherwise, the help is temporary. In the treatment of headache, place the left hand on the forehead, touching the
temple with the thumb and the middle finger. Place the right hand at the back and base of neck over the cervical plexus. Instruct
the patient to breathe deeply and to relax both mentally and physically.Impress thoughts of freedom, health, peace; and the headache will disappear. This
treatment will cure insomnia.Another
way to help effectually in relieving headache, melancholy, and depression is to press the thumb and second finger of the left
hand over the bridge of the nose, the thumb just above the left eye and the finger above the right eye. Place the right hand
over the nap of the neck, over the medulla oblongata. This treatment is also good for tired eyes. The right hand is positive and electrical; the left, negative
and magnetic. The right hand creates and inducts the electrical charges into the body, while the magnetic hand receives and
holds them, redirecting them again to the electrical. The currents thus established pass back and forth between the hands,
inducing harmonious vibrations and restoring health. When the student has progressed to the point where he is conscious of the great power
resident within him, and knows exactly how to direct it to the awakening of the power within the patient, the hands will no
longer be necessary to perfect results. But, until that time arrives, the hands are effective, establishing confidence not
only in your own treatment, but also in the mind of the patient.General treatment should always precede specific treatment. This general treatment
is both mental and physical. For example, in the case of nervousness and headache, nine times out of ten, constipation is
the indirect cause. Give a treatment for constipation first, and then treat the head as already described. And teach the patient
use of the internal bath in order to insure internal cleanliness. Always explain to the patient the effects of right and wrong
thinking. Many times, physical pains are traceable to envy, jealousy, and other evil thoughts. When man understands the influence
of thought on his body, he will be careful what kind he entertains; thereby he will lessen the amount of illness, bring about
better conditions, and in every way express more fully his sonship with God. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 19SUGGESTION(Much of this home study course in healing
comes from healing lessons produced by R. Swinburen Clymer, M.D., in 1913.Every attempt has been made to bring the instructions
up-to-date and into compliance with recent developments and discoveries. At the same time we have tried to retain as much
of the flavor and color of the original work as possible. In general, the opinions herein are those of Dr. Clymer circa 1913' material presented
in parentheses is the editors'. -G.E.P.)Suggestion,
strong, forceful, vital, is a necessary and valuable adjunct in the treatment of disease. Jesus and the Ancient Masters always
made use of suggestion.In the
Ancient Temples are to be found many hieroglyphics which depict methods of healing; there we see priest making use of "passes"
in order to impress the patient the more.Jesus
often used suggestion in that He often sent the sufferer to some spring, or closed the eyes with paste made of mud, or gave
them other suggestions.The
patient need not have an understanding of this system of healing nor even positive faith in you in order to be healed. If
he is passive and will follow instructions, you will be able to heal him. However, for the good of your work, and for the
good of humanity, you should do all in your power to interest him in the Natural Healing Philosophy, and even get him to believe,
and to live in harmony with this philosophy. The
healing vibratory currents from your mind will seek to harmonize with those of his mind whether he believes it or not. But
it is reasonable to expect greater results when the patient is fully in harmony with you and filled with expectancy and faith.
The more of receptivity the patient possesses, the more readily does healing take place. The faultfinding, resentful, suspicious attitude of mind is
difficult to overcome in some patients. When such appear for treatment, find some common ground on which to agree; and, with
this small point of harmony established, seek to enlarge it gradually, and you will be rewarded eventually by the patient's
giving himself unreservedly to the treatment. The very fact that he has applied to you for treatment proves that there is
a thread of belief on which you can hang a cure, if you but persist. When his confidence in your ability is secured, the diseased
condition will give way to the healthful vibrations of your mental treatment.Never for a moment allow a feeling of sensitiveness or antagonism to enter your
mind. If you do, you have lost an opportunity to effect a cure. You must be master of your own thought before you can hope
to be of service to others.Man
cannot abuse the art of healing and succeed. What power he had will leave him at the perversion of this God-given gift. Power
is the result of right use of Law; and the man of evil thought and life is not in touch with God. The hypocrite, the weak,
the vacillating, are not avenues for the manifestation of the power of God. Therefore, students desiring to become healers
must be filled with thoughts of love, goodness, and purity, and a desire to help their fellow man.Your mind is your servant and you can use it for good to yourself
and your fellow man. These lessons have already taught you many of the laws which you can, in part, teach your patients and
thus get them to live the exalted life.Make it
the purpose of your every-day life to be of benefit to all creatures. Radiate love, purity, and goodness, and your life will
be filled with power. Suggest love, happiness, success, peace, hope, and goodwill to all the world. Earth life is given you
so that you may learn to perform certain tasks and duties. If life is spent without this being done, you have not fulfilled
the debt that you owe to the Most High. To be undaunted, faithful, true to ourselves, our work, our Father, is to make of
life a beautiful journey, a blessing to all - often a path of thorns, but with roses spread all along the way. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 20THE
UNIVERSAL HEALING FORCEDisease
(dis-ease) is the result of the transgression of some law, either physical, mental, or moral. Such inharmony causes lack of
ease, health, well-being. Because of this, healers are in a position to cure. Mind and Soul are superior to matter, and are
far more effective than drugs.Thought
and Will are the essential agents of the drugless healer. These forces are Soulual forces, and can actually cure all of the
ailments of humanity. Self-confidence and knowledge are necessary to apply these agents. Doubt is as disturbing in mental
treatments as dirt would be in a dynamo. The power is gone. The mastery of pain is the aim of the healer. Not only healers, but every human being
should know how to subdue pain. Pain is a sensation dependent upon the brain and nerves of the body. Change the thought and
method of living; and, by the use of the will, pain may be annihilated. This overcoming is but temporary, however, unless
the cause has also been removed.A hypnotist
may take a subject suffering from an excruciating headache. Placing him in a sleep, by passes and suggestions, the pain is
"exorcised" to depart. After a few moments, the patient is awakened and finds his headache gone. Through the power
of Will, the hypnotist has set about a new rate of vibration in the mind of the patient; and consciousness, registering harmony
instead of inharmony, reports a cure. This can all be accomplished without hypnotizing the patient. If the healer can succeed
in impressing the mind that the headache is gone, the cure is accomplished. The power of the universal healing force, when centered and directed toward the
patient, will induce a different rate of vibration; this vibration, if accepted, the patient can use to his own advantage.
When the mind of the patient vibrates in unison with that of the healer, the pain is gone. Passivity to the suggestion of
the practitioner alone is necessary to bring about this harmony.Persons of vital temperament make the best magnetic healers. Goodness, purity,
truth, are great aids in the development of the magnetic quality. The mere presence of such persons has a beneficial effect.
The touch of the hands conveys a positive thrill, often curing the most stubborn disease. There is a universal energy, a life energy. The laws governing
this are many. As electricity is always drawn toward moisture, earth, and the mineral kingdom to strengthen its power, so,
in the giving of healing treatments, every movement of the hands should be downward. In this way, the disease is drawn from
the patient by the healer, and may be thrown off the tips of the fingers towards the earth and thus be absorbed.A successful nurse has this quality
developed. She imparts magnetism to the patient by rubbing and by the casual passing of her hands over the body. Her treatment
is psycho-physical.Universal
healing energy treatments are for the equalization of blood and temperature, distribution and centralization. The parts overcharged
must be relieved and those not sufficiently vitalized must be reinforced. Experience and confidence are necessary to become
a successful healer; but it is within the power of every earnest student.Make all vitalizing passes over afflicted parts, whether heart, stomach, or any
other organ, downward. A strong desire to cure must accompany all passes. This desire, thought force, is the keynote of healing.
By deep thought, concentration, cures are affected at any distance. In giving absent treatment, the patient should have a stated time for relaxation,
willing to receive the treatment. This twenty, thirty minutes, or an hour, should be agreed upon, and religiously kept by
both healer and patient.The
healer should know that all treatment is a process of an induction of healing forces from the positive mind to the passive
one. To a certain extent, atoms of life force and energy are transplanted from the healer into the mind and body of the patient.
This wakens his dormant forces.Passes
always impress the patient, and if for no other reason, would be worth the effort. The principles of healing, of right thought,
and healthful living should be thoroughly explained at every treatment.SELF TREATMENT. Lie down and relax. Breathe through the nose. Take long, full,
slow breaths. Beginning at the head, mentally surround yourself with healing thought. Let this thought envelop, and pass through,
the brain, eyes, nose, mouth, throat; on down through the heart, lungs, stomach, spine, liver, bowels, bladder, hips, upper
legs, knees, lower legs, ankles, feet, and toes. Rest a few moments and imagine you are drawing in magnetism with every breath,
absorbing and storing it in each part of the body as noted. Then begin at the feet and return to the head, observing the same
parts and organs. Sometimes, a tingling sensation is felt in different parts of the body, like a sharp current of electricity.
This is caused by the establishing of an harmonious vibration in diseased parts, and indicates a curative process.Continue the treatment from fifteen
to twenty minutes. Night, that time midway between sundown and daylight, is the best time.Continue the developing exercises already taught, such
as breathing, bathing, physical exercise, etc. |Top|
Healing Lesson No. 21POWER
OF SUGGESTIONSuggestion
is the basis of all true drugless healing.Suggestion
is anything that causes the mind to act. In healing, suggestion becomes thought transference. The thought of health is transferred
from the mind of the healer to that of the patient.Thought is the basis of all phenomena. To become a successful suggestionist, or a practitioner of metaphysical, or drugless
healing, one must acquire the "art" of accumulation strong, positive, vital health-giving and health-inducing thoughts.
When this has been thoroughly learned, it is comparatively easy to transfer them to the patient. When the patient comes to you for treatment, insist upon relaxation
and absolute quiet. He must become passive - that is, he must lay aside all fear, all antagonism, allowing himself to open
to the higher forces employed in bringing about a cure. While it is not a necessity, better results are secured if the patient reclines on a
couch or treating table. The body will assume an easier position this way than in sitting or standing.Instruct him in deep breathing. Begin the treatment telling
the patient to take either three, five, or seven deep breaths. Seven is a good number.Talk to the patient quietly. Speak firmly, convincingly. It
is imperative that the healer feel deeply every word he says that a perfect demonstration in healing may result. A sense of
hurry or nervousness is fatal to success, for the patient will receive the inharmonious vibrations, and the disease will be
accentuated.Explain
the principles of God's Laws to him, also their application, not only in sickness, but in failure, in poverty or unhappiness.
The mind of the patient must be taken away from all his troubles, and a feeling of security, of faith, induced. When harmony has been established between
you, affirm health.It is
well to make the greater part of your treatment a silent one. Look calmly squarely between the eyes and give him the suggestions
pertinent to his case. Mentally repeat the strongest phrases you are capable of forming. Never admit the possibility of failure.
Concentrate with absolute faith on health, on success, whatever subject he has call upon you for help.Do not antagonize by saying, "You are not sick, you only
think you are," and other such tactless remarks. Simply affirm, mentally, that the belief in adverse conditions, whatever
they are, is being replaced by wholesome thoughts; that he is now becoming all that he desires. You may mentally assert that the Divine in you is demanding
him to recognize the Divine within himself. This recognition and the consequent reliance of the patient upon the God, the
Kingdom, the Divinity with himself, are all that is needed to heal. The healer is only a medium between the Power and the
mind of the patient. All he can do is to awaken the patient, introduce him, as it were, to the perfect healing power within
that which always was, that which awaits but his recognition to leap into life and perform its perfect work.It is sometime of advantage to use the hands in treating.
Many patients respond more readily to suggestion when supplemented by physical aids. As already taught you, the right hand
is positive, the left is negative. In giving treatment with the use of the hands, place the right hand over the diseased part
and the left underneath, or opposite it. By steady concentration and suggestion, a current is formed that will pass back and
forth from the right hand, through the body, to the left. In a few minutes, the inharmonious vibration in the part affected
will respond to the positive, healthful vibration set up between the two hands. The instant this even rate of vibration is
established, healing is accomplished. Supplement the suggestion of health with the thought of the perfect body, which the
patient by absolute right possesses.From
five to thirty minutes, continue the treatment. The healer will know intuitively when it is time to stop.Disease is a negative condition, caused by negativeness in
the mind. Your positive though acts in the way that water affects a drooping plant. It mingles with the faltering, wavering,
despondent thought, braces it, and gives it definite outlines to work upon.Demand and EXPECT perfect results. The mind controls the body. It is supreme, The
hand, foot, tongue, every part of the body, yields to the mind. The mind must WILL to be positive, to entertain only suggestions
of goodness, purity, faith, health, wealth, and happiness. |Top|
HEALING LESSON No 22THE
HEALING BREATHTo breathe
the Breath of God on someone is one of the most important practices of the ancient healers, because it was a perfect sign
of the transmission of life. With your breath you can breathe out the Breath of God just as you can breathe, or draw, it in.To inspire, as a fact, meant originally
to breathe upon some person or thing. The
breath attracts or repels, according as it is warm or cold, and according as it is loaded with love or hate. The warm breathing
corresponds to positive electricity, and the cold breathing to negative electricity.Warm and prolonged insufflation (breathing upon the subject)
restores the circulation of the blood, cures rheumatism and gouty pains, re-establishes the balance of the being, and dispels
lassitude. When the operator is sympathetic and good it acts as a universal sedative.Cold insufflation soothes pain occasioned by congestions and
fluid accumulation. The two breathings must therefore be used alternately. The healer must observe the polarity of the human
organism, and act in a contrary manner upon the poles. (That is, one breathes cold to a hot part and hot to a cold part.)
The student Healer must always remember that he must practice to be able to breathe hot and cold at will.Considering the law of contraries, to treat an inflamed eye,
the one that is not affected must be subjected to a warm and gentle insufflation, cold insufflation being practiced on the
suffering member at the distance and in the same proportion.Passes have effect similar to insufflations, and are a real breathing by transpiration
and radiation of the interior air. Slow passes constitute a warm breathing which fortifies and raises the spirit, or life
principle. Swift passes are cold passes or cold breathing of dispersive nature, neutralizing tendencies to congestion. Warm
insufflations should be performed transversely, or from below upwards. Cold insufflation is more effective when directed downward
from above.Not
only do we breathe by means of the mouth and nostrils; but the universal porousness of our bodies is a true respiratory apparatus,
inadequate undoubtedly, but most useful to life and health. The extremities of the forefinger where all the nerves terminate,
diffuse or attract the healing forces of the universe and may be dispersed by our will.Passes without contact are a simple and slight insufflation.
Contact adds sympathetic and equilibrating impressions. It is good and often even necessary to prevent hallucinations in the
early stages of some diseases; for a communion of physical reality admonishes the brain and recalls wandering imagination.
It must not, however, be prolonged unless the intention is to have the patient become unconscious.Full contact is useful when the design is incubation
or massage rather than breath treatment. This system of healing is of great benefit in cases where the vitality is very low.
The patient should then be nude, except for modesty's sake. The hands of the Healer should be washed in warm water; he should
use an Unction made of expensive oils, wine, salt, camphor, balms, and perfumes. This will bring about an equilibrium of the
forces and give complete rest and repose, which, if continued, will bring about health. –R. Swinburne Clymer, M.D.
